Note of Interest: Nicole Ouellet, born in 1946 in Victoriaville, Quebec, is a celebrated Canadian artist known for her detailed engravings, watercolors, and oil paintings. She graduated with a B.A. in Arts from the Quebec School of Fine Arts in 1970. Her work has been displayed in various prominent collections, including those of the Royal Bank of Canada, Hydro-Québec, and the Government of Quebec. Ouellet's art often portrays intricate natural and urban scenes and has gained international recognition, with artworks in the collections of embassies and corporate collections worldwide.

Nicole received her art degree from the Quebec School of Fine Arts (École des Beaux-Arts de Québec) which was a prominent art school in Quebec City, Canada, founded in 1922. It played a significant role in shaping Quebec's cultural and artistic scene during the first half of the 20th century. In 1969, the Quebec School of Fine Arts merged with other institutions to form part of what is now Laval University’s School of Visual Arts (École d’art de l’Université Laval).

Margaret Shelton Bio Title

Margaret Shelton Bio Image Nicole Gagné Ouellet was born on August 13, 1946 in Victoriaville, in the heart of the Province of Quebec. Following her elementary and high school studies, she was initiated into traditional and contemporary art through engraving, painting in oils and watercolours at the Quebec School of Fine Arts. In 1966 and 1967, she participated in two group exhibits at the Musée du Québec and at Académie St- Louis in Quebec city. She then taught visual arts for two years for the Quebec Catholic School Board. In the autumn of 1970, Nicole took part in a six-month study workshop in Europe, after which she devoted herself to watercolours. Her works were shown in Quebec city's Rue du résor, a small, picturesque gallery alley of worldwide renown.

In 1976, her works were shown at the Galerie Le Grégeois in the Bois-Francs area. Since 1977, her etchings are distributed in several Canadian cities such as Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, as well as in several U.S. cities. In November 1982, her works were part of a group exhibit called One Hundred Exquisite Etchings, at Ottawa's Atelier Delphin. From 1972, trips to Asia and the Middle East gave her opportunities to discover oriental art, traces of which can now be found in her work.

In 1977, Nicole settled in Portneuf County, a superb country area she particularly enjoys. The calm country life and harmony with nature provide her with the peace of mind she needs for her inspiration. The work of Nicole Gagné Ouellet is brimming with poetry. The artist seizes images with intensity and conveys great sensitiveness to her visual interpretation.

In June 1983 in Greenwich Village, New York city, the works of Nicole Gagné Ouellet won her second prize in drawing in a competition of over 600 participating artists at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. Some of her etchings are included in the exhibit souvenir book. Nicole was chosen out of 50 artists to illustrate Old Quebec city on the occasion of the International Conference of Psychiatrists in the autumn of 1985. Her etchings of Quebec city scene were distributed to all participants at a Merrill Lynch Conference held in Quebec city's Château Frontenac.

In December 1986, she participated in the first international miniature exhibit at the Del Bello Gallery in Toronto. One of her etchings illustrates the book cover of the literary award for poetry, published in the context of the Quebec city International Book Show in 1987.
